The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue hits newsstands last week and with it arrived even more banging of the drums than normal. For the first time SI invited ladies who aren’t a size 2 to appear on the cover and grace the pages in gorgeous pictorials. And then Cheryl Tiegs had to go take the wind out of everyone’s sails stating that anyone with a waistline over 35 inches is unhealthy. I about had a heart attack. Wow talk about close-mindedness! I know lots of size 2 ladies who in no way lead a healthy lifestyle nor look healthy. So many things have to be looked at to get an accurate read on what makes one person healthier than another. Being mentally healthy is as important as being physically healthy. And when Ms. Tiegs jumps in there and make such an ignorant, blanket statement it sends the wrong message to women especially curvier ladies who deserve nothing but support and positivity. Words can be super powerful. I wish people would think before they speak and have a little sensitivity especially when you’re a celebrity and your words are read by so many. It’s inspiring see Ashley Graham and Rhonda Rousey on board as SI models because they are so much more relatable to me than the thiner girls also gracing the issue. It does’t make skinnier ladies bad or negative in any way. However, it’s just nice to see a major magazine acknowledge we all come in different shapes and sizes and no matter what size you are, you too are sexy.

Do I see myself as sexy? I absolutely do. And I’ve been thinner, as I sit here and type this, and I’ve been heavier. But I don’t think it’s a number on a scale that defines “Sexy.” It’s a state of mind, an attitude and sense of confidence that makes a person sexy. Life is short, if you blink you’ll miss it. So live a healthy lifestyle, have confidence and embrace your sex appeal. It’s not necessarily blondes that have more fun… it’s the sexy souls that do!

Although SI model, Anne V, has natural freckles, Murphy said she added additional ones on her, as well as the rest of the models, to achieve a playful look. “I did a lot of extra freckles across the nose and cheeks,” Murphy said. “She’s so fresh-faced, freckled and sexy.” And use a brow pencil to get the look. “Revlon makes the little red pencils that you can get in drug stores that are light brown,” she said “They’re the perfect freckle color so we used that on everybody.”
